Cultural capitals appeared in Ukraine


The winners of the competitive selection of the program Cultural Capitals of Ukraine were Mariupol and Slavutich. The results of the selection are published on the website of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation. Mariupol presented to the contest the project Dialogue in the language of art, which includes the performance installation Road home. This installation is implemented on the Mariupol-Donetsk road. For this project Mariupol was awarded the status of Grand Cultural Capital. Slavutich has been granted Little Cultural Capital status for a number of initiatives including a festival for the elderly, a festival for student architects and others. According to the press service of the Foundation, the purpose of the program Cultural Capitals of Ukraine is to develop culture within the framework of decentralization reform. During the implementation of the presented projects, cultural figures from the regions will be involved and Ukrainian culture will be popularized among citizens living in the winning cities. The press service specified that the implementation of the winning projects was postponed to 2021 due to the spread of coronavirus.
