Russian Foreign Ministry outraged by London court decision to recognize Guaido acting president

The decision of the High Court of London to recognize the leader of the Venezuelan opposition Juan Guaido as interim president of Venezuela is outraged in Moscow. This is stated in a statement by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova, published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry. This decision (High Court of London) is outrageous, Zakharova said. Obviously, in the UK, the independence of the court works only while the position of the judges is consistent with the opinion of the government. The diplomat noted that, apparently, the High Court of London simply does not have legal arguments, although they would be studied with great interest in the Russian Federation. According to her, when political expediency is at stake, the British law is silent. Zakharova noted that as a result, in violation of a number of principles and norms of international law, there was an actual rejection by one state of the property of another state in order to support an unconstitutional coup in that other state. According to the news agency, on July 2, the High Court of London effectively deprived the current leadership of Venezuela of access to Venezuelan gold at the Bank of England, as it recognized opposition leader Juan Guaido as president of the country.
