In Athens, riots occurred due to a bill to limit rallies
In front of the Greek Parliament in Athens, where a bill to limit rallies was being discussed, riots occurred. This was reported on July 10 by the Greek public television ERT. It is also indicated that near Sintagma Square, a group of about 150 people began throwing Molotov cocktails and stones at law enforcement officers outside the parliament building, to which the police responded with tear gas. The riots lasted about 15 minutes. It is also specified that as a result of the riots, police officers detained about 22 of their participants. Recall, as reported by the news agency, on July 9, the Greek parliament considered a bill regulating demonstrations and rallies, which seriously changes the current simple procedure for holding street meetings. According to the new document, the organizers are required to notify the authorities about the event, but an undeclared meeting is not illegal. In this case, the action may be banned if there is a possibility that its holding will disproportionately disrupt the socio-economic life of the region, in addition, in some cases the police are allowed to disperse rallies.
