Austrian Foreign Ministry responded to Turkey's decision on the temple of Hagia Sophia

The change in the status of Hagia Sophia was another step by Turkey away from Europe, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said on July 10 on the department's Twitter page. He regretted Ankara's move. We deeply regret Turkey's decision today to turn Ayia Sofia into a mosque and cannot understand it. The abolition of the status of the museum, open to all cultures and religions, is another step moving Turkey away from Europe, Schallenberg said in a statement. According to the news agency, on July 10, the Turkish State Council canceled the decree of 1934 on the transformation of the Church of Hagia Sofia into a museum. On the same day, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed a decree on the start of Muslim services in this church.
