Swedish Foreign Ministry responds to criticism of coronavirus strategy
Last week, Swedish Foreign Minister Anne Linde spoke with Deutsche Welle reporters. The main topic of the interview was Sweden's strategy to combat coronavirus. During her speech, Minister Linda had to answer uncomfortable questions about the rate of coronavirus distribution in Sweden, for which she was sharply criticized by Swedish politicians. Now Linde decided to clarify what she meant during her interview with Deutsche Welle. This was announced on June 22 by the Swedish agency SVT Nyheter. During a conversation with Deutsche Welle journalists, the head of the foreign ministry, Linde, was asked uncomfortable questions about Sweden's strategy to combat coronavirus and, in particular, high COVID-19 mortality rates. In turn, Minister Linde said that Sweden managed to smooth the infection curve and pass the peak of the epidemic in the country. However, journalists noted that in its last report, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control reported that none of the Scandinavian countries had reached the peak of the epidemic. This put the Swedish minister in a difficult position. For further explanations, Swedish journalists from TT turned to her. They (approx.: Deutsche Welle journalists) say that the spread of infection is increasing because we have conducted mass testing, but it, on the contrary, is decreasing when it comes to the death toll, or when it comes to the number of hospitalizations and patients in intensive care wards. In an interview, they said that we had not yet peaked, but we had already peaked a few weeks ago, Minister Linde commented.
