Smuggling of prohibited substances by mail increased in Shanghai

Shanghai Customs has been investigating 34 cases of drug smuggling by mail since the beginning of the year, Xinhua News Agency reported on June 26. According to Li Qing, deputy director of the Shanghai Customs Smuggling Department, of 34 cases, 30 parcels of drugs were sent by regular mail and four more express. Psychotropic drugs, narcotic drugs, marijuana and other illicit substances have increased significantly in the volume of contraband relative to heroin and cocaine. From July 2019 to June 2020, Shanghai customs seized a total of 1930.79 grams of new psychotropic drugs.
